Why this is the answer
Four states touch Mexico, and naming one is enough: California, Arizona, New Mexico or Texas. The border runs about nineteen hundred miles and is one of the busiest international borders in the world. It took its present shape after the Mexican-American War and then the Gadsden Purchase of 1853, in which the United States paid ten million dollars for land it wanted for a southern railroad route. That purchased land is now part of Arizona and New Mexico. Memory hook: from the Pacific eastward, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas.
