Why this is the answer
Article VI of the Constitution calls itself the supreme law of the land. Every other law, federal or state, has to agree with it, and every judge in the country is bound by it. That is why a law that goes against the Constitution can be struck down by the courts, and why every official, from the President down, swears to support it. The Declaration of Independence explains why the country exists; the Constitution is the law that runs it. Memory hook: "supreme" means above all others, and the Constitution sits at the top of the pile.
