Why this is the answer
The colonists crossed the Atlantic for the same handful of reasons people still move to the United States. Many came for economic opportunity: the settlers of Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement, hoped for land to farm and for gold and silver. Others came for religious freedom, like the Pilgrims who founded Massachusetts in 1620, or to escape persecution and find political liberty in a place with fewer restrictions than home. Name any one.
