Why this is the answer

Name any two from the official list: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. They honor people or events in American heritage. One detail is worth knowing because it surprises people: these holidays are national in a legal sense only for federal institutions and the District of Columbia. Federal offices close, but each state decides for itself whether to observe the day, and businesses, schools and shops choose whether to close. So a federal holiday is not automatically a day off everywhere in the country. Memory hook: pick two you can pronounce comfortably and say them clearly.
